I am so addicted to farmers markets! It really doesn't matter what city, state or region they are in, I always want to visit them, because I love exploring all things local.
Luckily, there are a number of them right here in my own back yard -- and fortunately, I was able to sneak a quick trip to the one in Bolton Landing today in between work.
It was fabulous! And, it wasn't just because they have a wine vendor there. There were a few of the same folks who go to the Glens Falls Farmers Market on Saturday, but there were also a number of vendors I hadn't seen before -- including Colebrook Country Wines out of Gansevoort, N.Y.
If you know me, or you read this blog regularly, you know I can't pass up trying a new local anything -- including wine. I tasted their green apple, but then the guy tempted me by saying he found a few special reserve 2007 pinot noir. That was it -- one taste and I was sold.
The display that caught my eye immediately was the sweet looking baked goods at the Dickenson Delights table -- specifically, the pies, because they came in a variety of sizes. Don't you just love when things come in mini versions? I do, because then you can eat it while it's fresh and don't have a lot of waste. And this blappleberry pie is a perfect size for two people.
I'm not sure how I missed these guys at the Glens Falls Farmers Market, but this pie sounds fab: strawberries, blueberries and blackberries with apple. Yum! I also picked up a monster brownie with walnuts for my Dad's birthday.
