Simple Super Bowl XLVII Cupcakes

We had a fun little Super Bowl "party" at the office yesterday. My plan was to make my mini football cakes, but of course I couldn't find my football cookie cutter anywhere, and no store I went to had any (it's Super Bowl, retailers -- you should be selling them front and center ...but I digress).

I thought about dying the icing red and gold for the 49ers, and black and purple for the Ravens, but a) just coming off having the flu, I was exhausted, and b) achieving dark colors like those can sometimes create for a bitter icing.

Then, while walking through Home Goods looking for cookie cutters, I came across containers of purple, gold and red sugar "sprinkles." I was bummed I couldn't find black, and looking back I realized I could have used chocolate sprinkles.

If you're looking for a quick and easy dessert -- and super kid-friendly -- for tomorrow's game, whip up a batch of cupcakes (I use Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake), frost them with a white icing (for this I used cream cheese icing) and then cover them in each team's respective colors.
